How to go from Church Musician to Playing in the REAL World
This is a quick video of advice for young gospel musicians who grew up playing in church and want to become professionals and in other genres (the REAL world) and not limit themselves to only being gospel musicians.
I explain how fundamental things like hanging out in local jam sessions (not to be confused with gospel sheds), listening to and authentically playing new styles of music, and being trustworthy and on time for gigs can make the transition to regularly working in your music scene smooth.
Church is a very controlled environment in which many basic business skills and best practices for professional musicians are not applicable. I hope to help musicians overcome the initial culture shock with this video. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.
